Has Joe Biden just announced that Kamala Harris will not be his choice for Vice President on the Biden Democratic Ticket and Amy Klobuchar will? I think he has and I think he will.
First, Biden said he would pick a woman as his running mate. Second, he said he would nominate an African American woman as his first nominee for a seat on the the Supreme Court.
He didn’t directly say that his running mate would be a white woman but, his statement that his first appointment to the Supreme Court would be an African American woman is a clear message to his black supporters who saved him when he was leaking oil all over the racetrack “I’m going to put a white woman on the ticket but I saved a seat on the Supreme Court for one of yours. Hope you don’t mind.”
There’s an expression for that kind of stuff. It’s called “clever by half.” Or, better yet,”stupid.” Joe’s best asset is that he’s a decent regular guy. Playing clever like Nixon blows up the Biden brand.
C’mon Joe, use your head. On the two biggest appointments you get to make you’ve automatically eliminated all males on one appointment and all whites, asians, native Americans, hispanics and black males on the other. Plus, you are announcing to the world that the people you’ve chosen for two of the most important slots you have to fill have been chosen, in part, because they have a politically desirable gender and/or race.
Didn’t you learn anything when you were with Obama? There’s some white people in the swing states. Males too. FOX is going to have more fun with your “cleverness.” It plays right into their theme of Democrats and identity politics. Don’t make it so easy for them, for Pete’s sake.
There’s a way for a candidate to describe potential appointments. First, you never exclude a person for being in the “wrong” race or gender. There is no wrong race, gender, religion or ethnicity. Second, you always indicate you are looking for the best person for the job. For the Office of Vice President, the overriding consideration has to be who can best serve as President if the need arises. If you want to send a message to a particular group that you remember their help in getting elected, you release a list of names of those under consideration. You’re allowed to use your brain in the composition of the list so that the group can’t help but be optimistic about their chances of achieving government service.
Joe, didn’t your mother ever tell you its not what you say, its how you say it?
Be that as it may, I’m cool with Amy. Assuming I’m right and she goes on the ticket it indicates a Rust Belt Rematch in the General Election. The target states will be states the Obama-Biden ticket won twice and Hillary lost. They are: PA, OH, MI, WI, IA (Iowa). Each of the five rust belt states has a substantial number of farm communities. Hillary got clobbered there. Losing some counties in PA 20% to 80%. Ridiculous! No Democrat should ever get blitzed like that anywhere ever. Amy can relate to those folks. She’s done it in Minnesota. She should go full bore in those rural areas and bring those states back where they belong. In the Democratic Party.
In the final analysis, win the five rust belt states that Obama won twice and hold the rest of the country as it was in 2016, and they’ll be playing Hail to the Chief for Joe come Jan 20, 2021.
We’ll just have to figure out how to deal with that.
